Teenager Ejected from Vehicle in Fatal Lake View Terrace Accident
A 19-year-old man was thrown out of his car as it left the road and was killed, according to The Beverly Hills Courier.
The crash occurred on a freeway transition road that connected to the Ronald Reagan Freeway heading eastbound with the Foothill Freeway heading westbound in Lake View Terrace. The accident occurred sometime between 2 and 3 a.m.
The man, who was from North Hills, was driving a Scion. He lost control of the vehicle, which then left the road and flipped over as it went over a freeway embankment. He was ejected from the vehicle and suffered a severe blow to the head. A helicopter helped light the road as local police officers looked for other potential victims from the accident, but none were found.
Although news reports did not mention whether this man was wearing a seat belt, the odds are very good that he was not as he was thrown from the vehicle. Seat belts are the most effective form of protection in a crash and can cut the risk of injuries from an accident in half. Seat belts also help keep you in your set in the event of a crash – ejection from a vehicle is usually deadly, as it was in this case. Although airbags are a great secondary source of protection, they cannot replace the value of using seat belts.
It has been estimated by the National Safety Council that approximately 336 people were saved in the United States over the Thanksgiving period alone because they used their seat belts. They also estimate an additional 115 lives would have been saved if everyone had buckled up.
